Oct 02, 2001

REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA (October 2, 2001) — Shutterfly, Inc. announced today the appointment of Peter Elarde as vice president of product marketing for the leading online photo service. Bringing more than ten years of computer and Internet software development and marketing experience to Shutterfly, Elarde will oversee the development of products and services that make it as easy as possible for consumers to access the benefits of digital photography, especially as more people take advantage of this technology. Elarde will report directly to Andy Young, Shutterfly’s chief marketing officer. This announcement is part of Shutterfly’s continued commitment to building an enhanced management infrastructure and follows Shutterfly’s recent news that the company is consistently posting consecutive positive operating margins, showcasing gross margins almost 50 percent higher than its top competitors.

“As Shutterfly continues on its path to profitability, it’s crucial that we utilize the depth, knowledge and experience of influential industry veterans,” said Andy Wood, Shutterfly CEO. “With his focused computer and technology marketing experience in educational and consumer software, Peter is an invaluable component to Shutterfly’s success,” Wood added.

Prior to joining Shutterfly, Elarde was vice president of product development for Achieva.com, a provider of online college prep programs, where he led the company’s product marketing and product development groups. Previously, he was cofounder and president of ITeach.com, a web site for teachers, offering communication and curriculum development tools for grades K-12. Elarde’s marketing experience also includes several years with Tom Snyder Productions, where, as vice president of marketing and sales, he generated a 35 percent annual sales growth for the company, which publishes educational software and produces award-winning television programming.

“I’m thrilled to be part of such a great team at Shutterfly,” Elarde said. “Shutterfly is the only company in the online photo-finishing market with an end to end technology infrastructure and a strong dedication to innovative products and customer service,” Elarde added.
