This International Friendship Day, through Shutterfly’s Open Door Project, we’re celebrating the millions of small moments that make friendship so special.
Together with our friends at Best Buddies, the largest international organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), we’re shining a spotlight on the joyful and sometimes “not-so-perfect” moments that we think are worth capturing.
From a high five to a hug and laughter shared over a silly joke, these photos are unposed, unfiltered, and simply unforgettable.
Through our partnership with Best Buddies, we’re honoring the power of friendship and fostering a more inclusive world.

Brad, Kate and Lisette
Alabama
Brad, Kate and Lisette became friends at summer camp and recently reunited at a Best Buddies Friendship Walk. In this photo, Brad is pretending to be the DJ and invited his friends to flip their hats around and DJ with him! Lisette said “I think this photo captures the three of us and our friendship perfectly. I love that our friendship has no barriers, regardless of diagnosis, distance, etc. These two play a huge role in who I am today!”
Brooke and Ysabella
Florida
Brooke and Ysabella are buddies from North Florida who do everything together. In this photo they are participating in a Friendship Walk where they were laughing, giggling and enjoying time with the group and other buddy pairs. For Brooke, friendship is “two people sharing the best moments in life” and inclusion “means that nobody should be counted out, especially those that make you the happiest.”
Santino and Amelia
South Carolina
Santino and Amelia celebrate a fun moment together with a high five! They are friends that are a part of the Beck Academy chapter of Best Buddies. When their chapter advisor, Marci, captured the photo she was smiling ear to ear. Marci explains, “Inclusion means ensuring everyone, regardless of their abilities, feels valued and integrated into the community, creating a more compassionate and inclusive environment for all. “

Talk with your Kids About the Power of Inclusion
From our earliest birthdays to retirement and beyond, milestones in life are meant to be shared with friends – to lift you up when you’re down or dance with you when it’s time to celebrate. Making friends doesn’t have to be hard; If we all share an extra smile, we can all help create a more inclusive world. Last year, Shutterfly partnered with Best Buddies to create an Inclusion Toolkit with simple tips and tricks to encourage friendship. Read it with your young ones and talk about the power of inclusion. Because the sooner we invite ALL people to the party, the sooner we ALL get to dance!
