NEW SHUTTERFLY CAPTIONS ENABLE CUSTOMERS TO PERSONALIZE PRINTS & GIFTS WITH TEXT

Oct 22, 2003

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF. – (October 22, 2003) — Shutterfly, the leading independent online photo service, today announced the introduction of Shutterfly Captions, a unique feature that allows its users to customize their photos with text on the front of prints; for example, “Michael’s First Christmas, December 2003.” With new Shutterfly Captions, it is easy for busy parents to honor childhood milestones with personal messages right on their prints — helping to trigger precious memories in the years to come.

Just in time for the holidays, Shutterfly Captions — available in six styles — are ideal for adding comments to your prints (i.e. wallet size and 4×6 through 20×30 inch-prints), describing the pictures in your Calendars; personalizing the front of your Greeting Cards and Note Cards; and narrating Snapbooks™, Shutterfly’s mini photo albums.

“From a Snapbook to even a snapshot, our customers wanted a simple and fun way to convey a message or share a story,” said Dave Bagshaw, President and CEO, Shutterfly. “We responded by developing our new, Shutterfly Captions feature. Because our customers use Shutterfly to communicate with and to stay connected with friends and family, we constantly strive to make these connections more meaningful.”

“For no additional cost, Shutterfly’s customers can better share important events and memories with friends and family,” said Jill Aldort, senior research analyst, InfoTrends Research Group. “Shutterfly Captions provide more personalized enhancements for prints, cards and other merchandise at a value, in time for the busy holiday season.”

Shutterfly Captions are not the company’s first personalized text offering. Shutterfly Descriptions — also unique to Shutterfly — enable customers to type in two lines of text onto the backs of 4×6, 5×7 and 8×10 inch-prints. Additionally, Shutterfly Descriptions appear on screen to help narrate Shutterfly Slideshows, which are commonly shared online among friends and family.
