NEW LARGE-FORMAT PRINTS FROM SHUTTERFLY TURN SNAPSHOTS INTO WORKS OF ART

Apr 24, 2003

REDWOOD CITY, CA – (April 24, 2003) — Shutterfly, the leading online photo service, today announced the introduction of its large-format prints, providing a new way for its online customers to create more impact with their pictures. The prints, available in three dimensions — 11×14, 16×20 and 20×30 — are ideal for special gifts, family portraits or decorating the home and office.

“Shutterfly’s latest offering is an easy, fun and cost-effective way to create personal works of art for homes, kids’ rooms, dorm rooms or offices,” said Andy Young, Shutterfly’s Chief Marketing Officer. “This is yet another example of Shutterfly’s customer-centric focus. We consistently listen to our customers and develop specific products, such as the large-format print, in response to their requests.”

The new prints are produced on a matte-finish, professional-grade version of the Fuji Crystal Archive Paper currently used for regular print sizes. Images from 2MB cameras and larger have ideal resolutions for all new large-format prints. Shutterfly automatically evaluates the resolution of images during the ordering process and recommends users to choose a smaller size print if the resolution is low.

“The large-format print is the third new product Shutterfly has introduced this year,” continued Young. “In early ‘03 we developed a multi-faceted personalization program called FOCUS that is targeted to the needs of different groups of customers. ProGalleries, a unique offering that enables professional photographers, clubs, schools and businesses to show and sell their photos for a profit, was launched in March.”

How To Super-Size Prints
Users upload digital photos to www.shutterfly.com, choose their favorite pictures and then improve their images with Shutterfly’s enhancement tools — cropping, fixing red-eye and changing color photos to sepia tone or black-and-white. When submitting their order, customers can also select from a full range of smaller print sizes including wallet, 4×6, 5×7 and 8×10.

Pricing and Shipping
Shutterfly’s large-format prints are less expensive than those found at many professional photo labs. The 11×14, 16×20 and 20×30 prints are $7.99, $17.99 and $22.99, respectively.

Large-format prints can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. and to more than 200 countries around the world. As with all Shutterfly prints, orders are typically processed and sent within 24 hours. The 11×14 is sent flat and the larger options are shipped separately in a protective tube.
