Giving Back on Giving Tuesday – and All Year – with The Open Door Project

Nov 29, 2022

At Shutterfly, our purpose is to make life’s experiences unforgettable. And, we believe everyone deserves to experience unforgettable moments. This year, we’ve rolled out The Open Door Project, which aims to provide access to those unforgettable life experiences for all, especially in underrepresented communities. Through a range of partnerships, programs, grants and employee volunteerism, we engage with our local communities across the country and beyond, helping open doors to support those who need it most.

Join Us This Giving Tuesday

While the giving happens year-round, Shutterfly is thrilled to dial up our efforts on Giving Tuesday, and offer multiple ways for customers to join us in serving our local communities.

  • In partnership with four incredible social influencers: Jamie Chung, Julia Berolzheimer, Joy Green, and Carly Riordan, Shutterfly is donating 10% of sales from our influencer picks back to Covenant House, an international nonprofit that provides housing and supportive services to youth facing homelessness. Customers can find the curated picks here, and via social.  The collaboration is ongoing, extending through the end of December.
  • And at Spoonflower, 10% of all sales on Giving Tuesday will be donated to A Lotta Love, an organization that transforms homeless shelters in Durham, NC, by creating dignified, safe and emotionally inspiring spaces for women and children.

What We’ve Been Up To

The Open Door Project is the umbrella under which all our corporate giving and philanthropic work happens, including hyper local activities at the chapter level, intensive week-long immersion projects with our Memory Mission, and an Employee Hardship Fund where team members support one another in times of need.  And at the companywide level, we’re thrilled to partner with two amazing international organizations who are working tirelessly to provide resources and support to the communities they serve: Covenant House and Best Buddies.

Already this year, we’ve had the opportunity to participate in Covenant House New York’s Pride Prom, support Best Buddies It’s a Match! parties across the country, and engage employees in volunteer opportunities including writing letters of care and hope to youth at Covenant House for the holidays.  Across the country, our chapters have supported local food banks, housing shelters, community centers, and more.  And since the Employee Hardship Fund was established in 2016, nearly $250,000 has been granted to employees in need, and more than $60,000 has been contributed by employees to help one another.

We’re excited about the work underway and the incredible dedication of our employee volunteers and external partners.  And the opportunities ahead are vast – we hope you’ll follow along on our progress, and join us in helping make life’s experiences unforgettable for all!
